Engineering Solution Manuals

As a Mechanical Engineering student, I know how hard it can be to do homework assignments without a little help. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to even start a homework assignment, but then I learned the secret! You must have a solution manual! Engineering students don’t use solution manuals to cheat, but rather to give direction. A solution manual is no different than reviewing the practice problem from your class notes, but instead of one example you have hundreds of examples. If used properly a solutions manual is an invaluable tool. It might be easy to use solution manuals as a method to cheat on homework, but the reality is that if a student uses a solution manual to cheat, they aren’t going to do well on the tests. I believe solution manuals should come standard with every textbook purchase. Another great reason to have a solution manual is to have a nearly unlimited supply of practice problems for a test. It in a common practice for instructors to give homework solutions and previous test solutions, but many times these limited number of solutions are inadequate to truly grasp the process of solving the problems. One professor I had would assign 10-15 problems per week, but would only require 3-4 to be completed for a grade. This was a great philosophy in that he assigned and gave solutions to problems in which he felt were good to learn the material, but didn’t require that all of them were completed as that would be too much work. What my professor was essentially doing, was giving a solutions manual for free to his students. The class was no easier than any other class and the tests were still difficult, but all of the students had a better grasp of the material because they were able to practice the problems with solutions.
I have found both ebay and half.com are great resources for finding solutions on the internet, so I created a site for Solution Manuals so people can easily find the solution manuals all categorized and indexed from ebay and half.com. I have categorizes for math solutions, engineering solutions, physics solutions, biology solutions and many more. I plan on eventually adding a forum for people to share and discuss solution manuals.
