Spring Break in Mexico

Well, I am back from a great week in Rosarito, Mexico for Spring Break.
I said that I would try to write once a day, but that became a rather large challenge with the lack of communication with friends and the absense of internet.
I had never been to Rosarito, Mexico before, so this trip was a new experience for me. We traveled down to Mexico with little plans as to what was going on or where we were going to stay. Being unorganized was probably the best thing we ever did, because bartering for travel, shelter, and drinks is all part of the experience.
We had some friends that found a condo at a place called “Oceana Casa del Mar“, so we first headed there to find out about room rates.
They started high around $160 per night for a 2 bedroom/2 bath/kitchen and living room suite, so we spent an hour negotiating $260 for three nights. This hotel/condo rental is a must if you go to Rosarito, since we found out later, it is the only place that allows for bartering room rates.
When we got to the room, it was absolutely amazing with a stunning view overlooking the ocean and the pool. There was 4 of us, so we ended up paying about $20 per night each which was amazing to me since we practically were in an apartment.
For the fourth night we stayed at a cheaper whole in the wall motel for $65 which was kind of like Motel 6 of Mexico.
The party atmosphere was slow for several nights, because it wasn’t really the hottest spring break time. Each night it got exponentially better and it was a toss up wondering where the party would be that night. Many places offered “All-you-can-drink” for $5 to $12 but it requires bartering to get the $5. Club Vibe will guarantee do all you can drink for $5 if you push hard enough.
The place were the party really happens is Papa’s and Beer. They have a climbing wall, a mechanical bull, and a beach volleyball court. It is common to have girls dancing on the bar while others are doing body shots. The environment is just plain fun and there really are no limits, you have as much fun as you want to.
We took a bus down from the border in San Diego, but later found out that the trick is to get a taxi for no more than $8 per person to get down to Rosarito. We found a taxi that took us back to the border for $20 for 4 of us.
There are a lot of flea markets to shop at right downtown, so the shopping is definately a must. The beach is easily accessed and is fairly nice minus the coldness of the water.
This trip was a lot of fun and was quite possibly the cheapest 6 day trip I have ever experienced. If you are in college (or not) and you want to plan a great spring break on the west coast, Rosarito, Mexico is your place.
Feel free to email me with any questions.

Living on the East Coast, I wouldn’t have thought to go there for a spring vacation. Thanks for the great write up of your trip!
